county inspection/permit - yes or no?
We have had several companies give us estimates for 2 new hvac variable speed heat pump dual fuel systems and we've pretty much decided on what to get.
The question is that this very reputable company we're probably going with is
quite negative about getting the systems 'permitted' and then inspected by the county.
A couple of the other companies said they do it automatically.
I haven't found out yet if legally in Georgia we are bound to get the permit and the inspection, for a re-install, update etc.... but it seems to me a protection for the consumer (that is, us), and also good in case we decide to sell the house - up to code etc. Or is it silly overkill?
Any help would be great. ThanksLast edited by claydean; 06-03-2007 at 12:27 PM. Reason: to change title to more general

Clay,
Sadly in Georgia, it depends on your county, call your county buildings permit division.......
If your county requires one, insist on it,

An inspection never hurts..... well it does cost something, but it is well worth it...IMHO.
Hell, for the contractor, it takes the burden of proof off. Hey, it passed inspection......
I would make that a mandatory prerequisite.... What does he have to fear...?????Life goes on long after the thrill of living is gone.

Thanks. That's what we think too, and it is very surprising that this very serious, respectable, starched-shirt sales representative of this company that we've used so long, said that it's not necessary and it's a pain in the neck and that I'd have to wait around for the inspector etc etc. Of course, we ARE in Georgia and things are odd here in the government - so maybe he's right.
We haven't actually gotten down to the details of it yet. We just got through with the wrangling over the other stuff.
So, is it likely they will charge me more than the county charges to do it? [I WILL find out tomorrow what the regulations are and what the county charges - just haven't yet.]
Thank you so much for your help. I feel a lot more confident. So, I won't get a new stove or anything. But we will be well air-conditioned. God knows we'd better be.

Grew up in The Athens area, my bets on the sales rep to be right unless you're in a large city (like Stephen said - check for your area!).
GOD knows if you did your best! <><

Don't be surprised if your rep tacks on a service fee to handle the leg work for a permit.
