I'm a boilermaker that works for a well known HVAC contractor in Chicago. My trade is not a good one that I would recommend for a young adult especially for my son. My question for you pipefitters that work in the Chicago area is. My son will be out of the army in one year and he is looking to join the trades. I work with many service techs and fitters but I would like to get more opinions that you would recommend for him to join the pipefitters union.

If my trade was growing I could get him a job with the boilermaker union. I think is future is better served learning the service end or fitter.

So, any recommendations that would give him a leg up on being accepted as an apprentice will be greatly appreciated.
