Kind of like the new Ford trucks. I like Ford trucks, I just haven't bought one of the new aluminum ones.

I had an R22 pressure relief disk blow out while driving down the road one day. Full tank of R22. Driving in Hartford Ct and I though someone shot the truck at first.

I pulled over and went to the passenger side and refrigerant was pouring out from under the sliding door into the gutter. Refrigerant fog everywhere.

Turned into a big EPA nightmare for my boss.

Unintentional venting is legal. Not much you could have done about it safely. Number one thing is eye protection, and gloves but it's not really worth the risk.

What exactly happened? What was the "nightmare" ?

How did the EPA even find out it happened?

Not sure. He didn't get into it. He said it just opened up a can of worms and he wished I didn't report it to my supervisor. It was a pretty anal company. This was 18 years ago and we documented every lb of refrigerant we used. Amount used. Site location. Model and serial number if unit.

They wouldn't get credit from their refrigerant supplier once the plastic band is off, so that's why they wouldn't take it back.

Speaking of, if the plastic was still on the valve of that R22 I think I'd slide it back into the box and go try to exchange it.
