im on call this labor day weekend

the older I got the more it bothered me, screwing up a whole week at a time, depending on the amount of techs we had at times, on call every other week at times, 4 weeks apart was the best I ever had with the last company...I know it goes with the job...doesn't make it suck any less though.
I'm back up this Labor Day weekend and it's absolutely starting to sizzle here after a period of near record lows. It's like the start of the season all over again with the caps and contactors burning up. I don't mind it though; even if I run all three days.
Just please leave me be after six or so...I'm old, crippled and tired. Cue the voilins...
Then the electric guitars with slight overdrive when I see what was direct deposited.
It sux.... period exlamation mark! Last day tomorow, not one call other than sat morning which was ez, unseasonalby cool here... not complanin, but if im on cal, I wana work
but yes, on call does suck. If you stay home no calls, if you go to do something calls start flying in.
been in this field almost 28 years.
been on-call almost 28 years.
still on-call every four weeks.
it is what it is. Get your overtime now while you can, cause in the winter money gets light.
it's just part of the job. Get used to it.
On-call sucks and every once in a while there is a company that doesn't do it. Worked for a National account company for a while that did the on-call but since almost all stores they serviced were closed by 9 pm never in 2 years got called out late. Company I am with now I have been called out over half a dozen times between midnight and 7am, been with them for less than 2 years.
Same situation here and same age level. My Dad was a plumber and I grew up working with him before switching to refrigeration. He had some good sayings that are never forgotten. The one I think of when things get wild " What does that have to do with the price of potatoes in Denmark " Just a trick to change the way everything is looked at. Then there's the original. Sh#t runs downhill and paydays on Friday.
Here's an example of a max stress job. Got the call at 8 am from Royal Canadian Legion the beer cooler was too warm. I'm in a small town everybody knows each other etc. Got there by 11 am and there was another tech already there from another co. When I drove by I counted 5 guys on the roof and 4 of them were Legion members helping out. I'd rather have a 4 am call on an ice cream display freezer at one of the grocery stores.
I have been on call for 4.5 months and no on call pay. Not fun
You better off finding a job of operating engineer with a school district or real estate company? I think they have more stable shifts then service techs.
