HEATING, REFRIGERATION AND AIR-CONDITIONING MECHANIC
Installs, services and repairs environmental-control systems in office, laboratory and other commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout.
Mounts compressor and condenser units using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications.
Fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.
Installs evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system, using hand tools.
Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools.
Cuts and threads pipe, using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment.
Joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings, or unions and solders joints using torch forming complete circuit for refrigerant,
Installs expansion and discharge valves in circuit.
Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source.
Installs air and water filters in completed installation.
Injects small amount of refrigerant into compressor to test systems and adds refrigerant gas to build up prescribed operating pressure.
Observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to insure proper operation.
Tests joints and connections for gas leaks using gauges, leak detectors, or soap and water solution.
Wraps pipes in insulation batting and secures them in place.
Replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units, using electrician’s hand tools and test equipment.
Experience in, and the ability to troubleshoot and perform corrective measures on refrigeration and air conditioning equipment from small 1 ton AC units thru 200 ton Certrifugal compressors as well as all associated equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot electric, DDC control systems, Metasys preferably.
Knowledge of fire alarm sytems and data cabling.
Perform snow removal as needed.
Perform work and/or duties as directed in areas other than HVAC.
Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment
Maintain written and electronic records, document actions and present written progress reports
Must be able to climb ladders (step, extension, straight, etc) up to 40 ft;
Must be able to lift and manipulate objects of up to 80 lbs for 20 ft if required;
Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel as needed.
Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment such as, but not limited to, gloves, harnesses, respirators, hardhats, protective clothing if required.
In general, the work of the HVAC Mechanic requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
