    Stood up?

Why is it that in any profession folks seem to think it is okay to stand up employers for interviews. If I had to guess, I get stood up an average of once a week by job seekers. Granted each time they have been scheduled phone screens...and for remote locations. I don't mind if I were to get a call 5 minutes before our scheduled phone call, saying I can't make it (even if they were to tell me that they had another interview to go to) I'm fine with that. Or even if they told me after reviewing our website they are no longer interested in our position.

I guess that I am a firm believer in the power of networking and the notion of not burning any bridges. The bigger your web, the more opportunity you will be presented with. But I guess thats just me.

I think some people don't care anymore. Seems like professional courtesy just keeps dropping by the wayside. Since most people these days don't feel they are responsible for what they do. I'll personally call if I even think I'll be late or can't make it on time for an appointment.

It is not just "professional" courtesy, its courtesy, period.

Some of us were taught to be courteous as children, by our mothers. I doubt they teach it in daycare.

With voice trees, voice mail, email, caller ID, and FAQ lists, we have turned away from interacting with others in a direct way. Even this web page is a buffer. You can't hear my voice, or understand my tone if I elect to use a little subtle humor.

If you are under 35, chances are you were raised to think it's all about you, the environment, and an identical outcome in life. Courtesy was not a part of the agenda.

I'm about 8 years shy of 35, and was brought up to respect. Growing up on a farm taught me great responsibility and great accountability. Nothing went over-looked. Lack of responsibility and accountability came with severe consequences. Most important lesson of my life came during my little league days. It was the day of the championship game, my father told me the night prior to have the lawn mowed by time he got home. I neglected to mow it, using I needed to rest before the game as an excuse. Father got home, and did not take me to the championship game. I know for a fact that hurt my father very much to do that, and taught me a great lesson that I apply every single day of my life since. NO EXCUSE for lack of responsibility and accountability.

Thermotron is an interesting company. We do not allow for inter-company e-mails to be sent. I mean how hard is it to walk 25' down the hall or up 1 flight of stairs to share information with someone? It helps eliminate any communication issues as well as encourages the growth of relationships with those we work with.

At your age, you may realize that you had a very vauable, and sadly, a very unusual experience as a child.

They just wanted to act like they were looking for work so they could get their unemployment check still.

Nothing to say about this post except for that under 35 hogwash you were spewing.

I'll admit the younger people are less courteous, but don't lump us all together!!

BTW, I'm 29, self-employed with 4 employees, some who are older, that I treat as well as they treat me!!

Don't even get me started. I use to work for the State gov't, my job was to help folks on Unemployment find employment.......10% actually wanting to work, 70% just getting through their time untill the unemployment dries up, 20% trying to create circumstances that would get them alternative means of assistance. I had to teach a lot of classes (resume writing, interviewing, etc.)....I would have had an easier time teaching algebra to a 1st grader.
