    normal voltage range (vs. tolerable)

    on a typical, less than 3 year, trane system, what is the "normal voltage range" versus "tolerable voltage range" for a heat pump?

    at what point would the lower end become an issue for the electronic components, control board, compressors, etc?

    ie. Available Voltage Range, V. 198 - 264, 198 - 264, etc..

    reason I ask this is that I'm monitoring a couple houses where voltage drops occur randomly (data logger connected) and while these are transient and the equipment continues to run, how much of a tolerance exists on the lower end of the tolerable low voltage?

    more detail: three systems installed within 2005-2007, all in the same general neighborhood, houses are not fed by the same power station line, nor are they on the same transformer. occasionally, the power utility experiences brown-outs (as opposed to black out) and line voltage can drop severely.

    harvest rainwater,make SHADE,R75/50/30= roof/wall/floor, use HVAC mastic,caulk all wall seams!

    Typically +-10% rated voltage. Unit rated 208/230 Volts, 208 volts less 10% = 187 volts minimum. 230 volts plus 10% = 253 volts. so the range is 187 to 253 volts. At the low end you may need a start assist for the compressor.

    Since you are recording, ask the utility for the range that they are claiming to provide from their last monitoring point, which is usually the last station location (where the large transformers sit inside the fence, and feed the top wires on the local poles).

    Since most areas are not into the heavy power usage of hot weather, random drops can mean equipment problems that the utility would prefer to find out about NOW.

    industrial used to be +10 -15

    but, sometimes I got down to exact voltage for unlatching a relay!
    and the time interval for such unlatching, then total clearing time and arc extinction time -- maybe in a few cycles= total time lapse.
