North Carolina cuts off unemployment :O

"republican controlled" North Carolina cut off unemployment benefits, i think people only get 20 weeks and no Federal extensions.

the state had one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation, so i guess they though everyone was living the good life.
i hope someone did a study as to if there are jobs in the state
they had to borrow money from the feds.
after they ended benefits, the feds said they won't get money and N Carolina said "cool"

i don't agree with these wasteful socialist programs, but they shouldn't say "this is the norm" , then pull the rug out from everyone.

States are free to pursue different policies to see what works best. Many times a hardship motivates you to take action. I have known guys that rode out all their unemployment before looking for work. They sat around playing video games and watching TV.
I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.

This might not be the right approach but I heard someone say on a news report lately that" People will do what you pay them to do". If you pay them to be unemployed, they will be unemployed. I have to admit, before I went to HVAC school, I had that attitude. I was in a factory job doing construction support and we would get laid off occasionally. We would always use that time to enjoy ourselves until we got called back.

Fast forward to today, now we have a terrible economy where people are Underemployed etc, I know it is very different now. People have accumulated a tremendous amount of debt to pay for that requires a real good wage to pay the piper.

The other moral of the story here is to live within your means. Don't carry/ accumulate debt!
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither safety nor liberty.

I have no problem cutting of unemployment to those that are abusing it. There are ways to know who is abusing it and misusing the funds.

Business owner I know could not get anyone to work for him because many applicants said, "... I make more money on unemployment..."
The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing the greatest amount of free meals and stamps EVER.
Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us to "Please Do Not Feed the Animals". Their stated reason for this policy "... the animals become dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."
