plumber for 40 years
just trying to learn a little more about hvac.
I came to refrigeration from plumbing 20 yrs ago. Never regretted it or missed the plumbing.
I do have one word of advice for plumbers: Refrigeration has a big pipe and a little pipe. The little pipe is warm, the big pipe is f'n cold. Keep the water pipes and the drains the heck away from the cold pipes.
Plumber here too 27 years, welcome, this is a unbelievable resource!
Thanks, I'll try and remember that.
Best GeoThermal Installers in the 1970's-1990's: Plumbers
When OEM said WATER QUALITY and QUANTITY and usually include 3-day well tests, watch recovery closely the third or fourth day , first hour or two after testing, not using more than recommended flow to static to where water was being delivered in the well...
IT WAS SO.
When asked beef up a return air to a system, they followed the .05 chart nicely...with some significant high return air grills ...
...Supply... they followed the .08 External Static Air Pressure Chart given..(ESP/Ductalator) as well...
When it needed under a 3 psi drop in piping for flow and circulation efficiency, they looked at their charts and followed them. -so lifting well water to ~ 120ft was acceptable- with then 3-wire pump higher efficiency systems...
When they were told a 4-ton replaced 800- 900 gallons of oil, they matched 'em up, put 'em in and some said their customers never used the back up 5kw or 10 kw toaster (strip heater- electric emg'y) and did not argue the house only needed 10kw in 3000 sq ft zone 5-to-6 6600-6400 deg days... so folks with 100amp services enjoyed some light dimming with their fantastic geothermal ROI's..
When told to insulate both supply and return pipes and seal duct returns especially etc etc and get the air away from windows and exterior wall surfaces... and consider most log cabins as needing 15 to 20% more..
- it was done - and surprise was shared with profits and savings over many typically found 80,000 to 150,000 btuh furnaces and boilers in 70%+ retrofits installed having only 44,000 - 47,000 btuh installed GT and some 100% Full-INSTANT Hot Water Prioritized ... for high mass and pools heating also...
-well one plumber went on to after selling his ~GT co. name to an associate to be a state-wide premiere installer of - to over 40 a year from 1983 - on -to 2003, -them selling again for another decade of installations by others, - - - because of a Plumber's disciplines.
It was plumbing technology applied-1981, on a 4-ton (todays 47,00 measurable btuh out put, 50*f well 6gpm) Wtr:Wtr single-cycle- chiller- or heater =GT BOILER, three-way motorized valves ; a couple bronze pumps, a 7-ton air coil placed in the RETURN air side of oil furnaces,
for designing with the HW tank all four: HT CL HW and Heat-Reclaim in second stage cooling to the HW tank, as then the first staged cooling was 6gpm well water for about 2 tons s/t mid 80's, 1/4hp belt drive oil blower at cabinet-sealed/taped-up furnace; the 2nd staging -heat-reclaiming chiller brought in ~to ~ 4 tons while heating HW or recycled in the ditch back to the aquifer (eventually). RUNNING TO DATE.
