    Trane head pressure damper

    Hi guy's

Anyone know of a source for the High pressure gas dampers which Trane fit to some of their air cooled chillers?

I fitted a supplied one a few weeks ago and now they want me to get some more. I really don't want to pay Trane prices for the obvious reason and I can't get to site to check the make just fitted..

    Cheers

    Richard

Robertshaw made them originally (I think).
I take them off when I find them on units. They are a probable refrigerant leak source and the dampers aren't worth a sh*t when it's really cold and you need them to work. I usually put on a fan speed controller or VFD if the units big enough. Honeywell has a damn reliable VFD. I forget who makes it for them, but it really works well. I've put in a couple with no call backs or problems.
I wouldn't use a Siemens VFD if they paid me to. We put in one and had nothing but problems with it.
    Just my 2 cents.

You can sell the repair to your customer easier by using OEM parts and get higher margins. How long have they ran without issues?

Trane parts, Tarrant Parts or United (Robertshaw)

Depends on where I am,wether I want to pick them up or have them drop shipped & my mood, there all about the same to me.

I agree they are possible leak points, but, so are alot of other things we install.
There is no such thing as the "perfect" unit. Its hard to tell where to start & end with that philosophy, atleast for me.

IMO, no since re-inventing the wheel.

Bought one from Trane Sept 2005 for a 6 year old 50 ton chiller at a cost of $560.00.

Feb 2007 that exact same piston leaked again. It only lasted 16 months and the price jumped up to $620.00.

I figure I'll probabaly be fixing it again by August 2008 at a cost of $700.00!

Heck, I'd rather put on speed controls than to use those damper set-ups.

That's a '60's wheel you're replacing. Kinda like saying you don't want radials.
