    HVAC compressor

Even with the thermostat set to the coldest setting, the compressor cycles off after only about a minute. Any ideas?

Well, low on charge which would mean a leak some where, compressor bad, or could be bypassing cause of over charge for that matter.

What type of system is it? We need more info to give better ideas first off.

Sounds like you need to call a pro tomorrow morning first thing and get someone to come take a look at it. Could be a few things that could cause that to happen.

I've called a pro before and they just move the thermostat and say that the problem is fixed.

How cold do you have the thermostat set? Does the indoor fan and outdoor fan also shut off when the compressor shuts off?

I think you need to call someone that knows what they are doing. Where are you located at? Maybe we have someone from the site that is close.

It's not a digital thermostat. So it is turned all the way to the right.

The compressor (and the fan motors) have an internal overload that is heat activated. Many things can cause it to open.
