Hopefully it just dropped straight down and didn't damage the coils on its way. Sheesh.

This condenser fan motor dropped in band mount. Destroyed blade, motor, capacitor, and blew fuses. Shut down entire 50 ton pkg unit. Trane

We've been having that same problem on our Heil units we have been installing except the squirrel cages are slipping down on the blower motor. Coincidentally the sticker on the blower housing says Carrier.

We just installed a split Trane hp 3 weeks ago. Finnished on a Fri. Recieved a call the following Mon saying the damn thing doesnt work. the fan motor was burnt out already. ofcourse trane didnt have one on the shelf, so we bought one from another supplier to make the customer happy. also seen the Carriers do that fan drop before. i just think qc is on the back burner anymore.

I was thinking about this same thing this morning tightening down a blade on a Trane. Someone has said "when I have to start checking fan bolts on X brand, thats when I quit selling it" LOL

Have had that same problem with Trane and the belly motor mount. It slowly works it's way down and the blade starts to catch. Why don't they make it a basket like lennox/goodman/everyoneelse

I do a lot of new equipment startups and If this happens after startup to me I am at fault. One of the tasks is tighten all set screws then a box to check off on the report. Some are not possible to get to wiyhout removal of the fan assembl so I don't check the box on those.

Thats why we perform a shake down on all equipment before Its started. Its good practice and will save you the trouble later.

Have you guys seen the older York 20 ton condenser fans wriggle there way up and out of the motor brackets? Had a local golf club with a few 15 yr old units do this. If not for the fan guard, who knows what would happen!! Loosened the brackets and let motors fall back into place and retightened, motors moved up appx. 3 inches. Had one motor move up so bad, the wiring actually pulled out of motor (wiring was brittle and weathered, didn't take much to do so), replaced motor and prop.

What's the next thing? Send it to us in parts and we build them too?

"Sorry sir, our quote has to include us taking the entire unit apart and putting it back together because the manufacturer can't guarantee their assembly." Wait!? Isn't that covered in a warranty that covers defects in manufacturing or would it be considered assembly?

Can't you just see a new car dealer being told they have to check every bolt and connection in a new vehicle or they have to eat any warranty issues associated with failures due to something coming apart.
Use the biggest hammer you like, pounding a square peg into a round hole does not equal a proper fit.
