    need help !Carrier vs Lennox

I have quotes to install a new central AC system in a 2,800 sqft house in NewEngland
I norrowed it down to two companies that have been around a while and hopefully will do a good install

1st a Lennox XC13-042-230 3.5 ton (up to 15 seer rating from web page)
    Lennox CBX32M-042-230 air handler

2nd quote a Carrier 24ACA3 4 ton 13 seer 10 yr limited warranty on compressor
Carrier FX4CNF048 410a coil blower (a couple grand more for install)

not sure why it's off a 1/2 ton

I have read Rheem/Ruud or Trane makes a better unit should I consider getting a dealer for that instead?

any help would be great thanks

Well I am a little bias since I sell RUUD but I would put RUUD up against anything on the market, and you will find it's hard to beat RUUD's Mod. furnace.

The equipment is only a component in the HVAC system that the contractor you choose will be building for you.

Regardless of name on the equipment you need to choose the contractor that can build the best system for your needs & then be able to verify it actually is doing what he told you it would.

Keep in mind that those SEER ratings only apply to laboratory conditions, your home isn't a lab.

Spend a few extra $$$ and spring for the XC15. Gets you a much nicer, quieter outdoor unit and the LSOM (Lennox Systems Operation Monitor).

I like Lennox better than Carrier. I just put a new Lennox XP19 in my house. But I am at least as biased as the RUUD guy.

As to the size difference, Did either contractor do a load calculation, or did they size it based on square feet of floor area. Not doing a full load calculation would be a mistake.

Put a Goodman in and pocket some money. I hate Carrier and Lennox.

Hmm Pick the better contractor see if they did a load calculation

Carrier and Lennox both make comparable equipment. Go with the contractor that makes you more comfortable. Ask to see their load calculations the one that actually ran them is more competent. Maybe the both did a load calc but I doubt it. At 2800 square feet 3.5 tons sounds low especially if you have a number of windows. There is no substitute for a load calculation.
