    Inspectors really suck!

Call for my Inspection and the guy comes and starts knocking the plumbers job. Gets the ass at the primary contractor about a plumbing vent and the plumbing inspector had already signed off on the job. So today we are going for power. It is called "equipment check" which is right before the final. He goes off on him about the vent again and the kitchen hood vent...says he ain't giving him power. The fire Marshall shows up a hour later.... okay-ed the kitchen hood vent system after he kindly asked for a couple of minor adjustments. One works with you...the other against you. He never said one thing about my work that was a problem and still I have nothing signed off.

Their all a pain in the ass.I work in about 9 different cities & each city has their way of doing things, then each inspector has his way of doing things.
I installed 250 fire dampers & called for rough inspection.Mech. inspector comes out & says i did every thing wrong. When you fix the problems call for reinspection. As soon as he leaves i call for reinspection for the next day.
Another mech, inspector comes out , says you did a beatiful job on those dampers & signs me off.
Left hand don`t know what the right hands doing.

If they found anything wrong with your job you'd argue with them so long and stack them with so much paperwork to go through they'd give you a mercy sign-off.....I'll bet you've never agreed with an inspector finding a fault on your job.
If everything was always done "by the book"....the book would never change.

They don't mess with James, he goes straight to the head inspector and gets things changed.

Last week I could have killed one! We did a job in Greensboro, we are about 2hrs away just outside of Charlotte. We didn't really want to do it but it was for one of our local contractors and he agreed to compensate us for travel. The job was called in for final and we were turned down for not having gas pressure test ports after the regulator.

I drive all the way up there prepared to add them and discover they were already in the line. WTF So I found the inspection report, found his name and number. I give him a call tell him why he turned me down and what I found. His excuse " Uh sorry I must need glasses, I'll go ahead and approve you" Sorry doesn't compensate me for a wasted half days travel. I was steamed, cussed the whole 2 hrs home

The last one here got fired because he and a general contractor got in a fist fight. If these guys were that great they would be making 3 times the money actually doing the work. It is obvious the HVAC rooster inspector doesn't like the GC. Fine, the GC is a X Marine and is ready to work on him so they should take up their differences on each other and not the job

inspectors are a weird breed either you can get along with them and they are good decent guys or they are total dumb arses/pr!cks

the ones I have here are ok - the gas inspector suggested I go work for XY co cause they are desperate for a gas tech class b they would die to get a class A tech

    dang there's work here
www.vetopropac.com - The best tool bags on the market - The offical tool bag of choice by techs everywhere

Arguing with some people is like wrestling a pig - eventually you realise the pig actually enjoys it

Most are just clowns that have to justify their jobs, some of my jobs I have to tell them what it is and how it works. P**ses me off I take courses to learn new st*t and then I have to deal with these clowns that don't know sh*t from shineola.

I had an inspector that would not sign off on a roof top a/c install until I wraped the condensate line with armaflex. No code called for such a procedure, but that was the deal. He claimed the condensate line would sweat and that moisture would spread mold to grow into the building. Respect my authority!!!

I had that happen also...I backed him down. It isn't in the code. The problem is some people use the thin wall PVC and don't put enough slope in it.

Here`s three brainstorms inspectors came up with here in san jose,
1 The h.p. condenser has to be 6" above snowline. IT doesn`t snow in san jose.
2 I used the wrong colored nails on my straps on flex duct.

3 I have to grade the under floor ducts 1/4" per foot back to the furnace for drainage.
