should we buy new system
Hi all. I have been reading in this site for a few weeks now, and have found it very interesting. We have a day&night gas package unit on our house that is now 20 years old, it was the last model they made with the exhaust flu on the top. My question is, the unit still works fine but we have the money now to change it out with something new. Was this a good era for that company? The unit has a faded sticker on it that says high efficiency, whatever that would have been in 1987! Also, we dont get extremely cold weather here (las vegas) would a heat pump be better? I have friends with heat pumps, and their houses seem more comfortable than ours, not that hot blasting heat like our gas unit. Thanks for the info....

Also, if your house is poorly insulated or not at all, there is a chance that you will not be able to keep the house warm and you also need to make sure that the electrical service is enough to run a heat pump. A repuitable contractor in your area should be able to come to your house and be able to give you an idea of what, if any, upgrades need to be done for you to be happy with a heat pump.
Poor planning on your part doesnt necessarily constitute an emergency on my part.
