My first summer doing service I mistakenly unscrewed my hose from a low loss fitting on the high side, and managed to get it back on.
I got a bit of a burn, but nothing remotely like that!
Fortunately R-410A wasn't around then, because it is way worse than having it happen with R-22.
Boils colder at atmospheric pressure, and come out WAY faster.
If more government is the answer, then it's a really stupid question.

Goodman units are notorious with trying to get your hose of the liquid line without getting blasted with
    410-a

Had that happen to me with an R22 package unit once. Never again! Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

This is my first summer and I did that about too, but it was R-410A! The condenser was in a poor location in the corner of two walls, so you had to reach around to get the hoses on! Accidentally did the same thing, removing the hose from the low loss fitting, but i somehow got it back on with a few burns! Nothing like that.. just hurt for a while.

A day or two after seeing this post I went to a no cool on a split that had a restricted piston. I pumped it down and cleaned up the piston, evacuated the system, and when I went to open the rusted up suction service valve she made a "crack" and started to blow. I jumped out of the way and just let her go, as I had these images on my mind.
