The prospect of starting My HVAC training in the fall has been a great source of excitement for me recently. Its a career i could really see my self excelling at and enjoying. Recently, i have become discouraged when i started to look at employment opportunities in my area. 2 years is a long ways away and i know none of those jobs would be around anymore, but i was just curious what kind of requirements employers were looking for.
Young and dumb i have gotten my self into some trouble. 2 DUI's a weed possession charge and underage possession of alcohol. After looking at employer job listing i have noticed about 90 % of them require a clean driving record and a background check. this seems to make my chances of getting a job in the HVAC field next to nil. this is disappointing as i was really excited about starting a path to an actual career.
So i guess what i'am asking is, would it be as improbable as i see it to get a job in this field with my previous arrest record. I have been learning carpentry with my dad for the past 5 years. This may be the better route for me to pursue now that I've become more educated on what employers are looking for. i was hoping my basic knowledge of home repair would pair well with HVAC, but now i m thinking ill just have to stick with carpentry, or choose a different trade.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Don't pull any punches, just lay it on me. Thank you
