I took a 3 ton pack unit yesterday all seperated and got $176. #1=$2.90/lb, #2=2.75/lb, clean copper/aluminum radiators=1.45/lb and shredder steel=$12/100lb, copper bearing steel $.50/lb

Me and my son save them until we have a big load to take, we call this our fun(gun) money. So far we have been able to aquire quite a few we wouldn't have otherwise. I'm holding on to the copper for a rainy day. We cut the copper in about 3" pieces with a pair of bolt cutters and store them in buckets, you would be amazed at how much weight you can put in a 5 gal bucket when you cut it down. Scrap yard once made my son open up the ends because they though he had weighted the copper.

Before dumping any simihermetic compressors at the scrap yard, check around with rebuilders, as many of them pay pretty decent money for rebuildable cores.

Replaced a couple stolen condensers last year thieves not so nice but thorough only took what was of value including disconnect pullout
