Yeah, and tell you they shouldn't have to pay a diag. fee(built into the service call charge), cause they already knew the problem.

YES. On one call this old guy was standing in his front yard waiting on me. Before I could get out of the truck he was at my window. "Its the fan motor, I know the fan motor went out, all I need is a new fan motor." Ummmm, ok. So I get inside and he is right over my shoulder watching me like a hawk. Once I found out he had a bad board and the motor was fine he went and hid in his living room, and from that point on did not say another word, and his wife took over from there. She signed the invoice, said goodbye, and old grumpy just sat quietly in his ez chair. Im glad I didnt let him bully me into just replacing his motor before I checked the control board.

my most common comments are that it is the tstat or gas valve, when its a flame rectification problem.
if they insist on parts i'll simply say ok but i must charge you parts and labor for those parts, but i'll have to also charge you to fix the problem. after that they let me tshoot the systemI dont warranty Tinkeritus

One time a warranty cust called and said his 90% furnace wasn't vented correctly and low and behold he was right.
Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.

I wanna ask them, "Do you tell the doctor what medicine or cure you need when you go in to see him? Does he still go ahead and examine you anyway?" The thermostat must be the only technical term they know cause everywhere I go the thermostat always seems to be the clear winner when it comes to self-diagnosis.
Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see.

Once I went on a call and when I walked into the house the homeowner says "the pilot just needs lit". Ok well the furnace was a 3 year old Trane with an HSI. I take the doors off and theres all these used matches in the bottom of the furnace. Guy says" I tried to light it but it would stay lit". Wouldnt stay lit or didnt lite at all? I told him he had a bad ignitor and that he doesnt have a pilot light. He just walked away like a scorned puppy.
