    Textbook bathroom exhaust install.

This was not a DIY project gone bad, it was "professionally installed."

I don't understand why no one cuts the sheet rock the right size for the fan. There seems to always be at least a 1/2-1" gap all tge way around on all of them and no one ever terminates them to the outside.

Yeah... just does not make sense.

All one has to do is hold the fan in place, trace around the outside with a pencil, cut with key-hole saw, and mount.

Guess that is too hard for subs in a hurry...

I will give them credit for one thing: They put the second brace in. Many I see are hanged on one side only.

I really like the wiring also... just wait for the inspector.

I'm not sure either of those pieces of wood it is sort of screwed to could legitimately be classified as a "brace!"

I remember some where the 'hack' ( ) simply screwed two sections of wood to the sides of the fan... never mind attaching them to anything...kinda like 'struts' to hold it above the ceiling.

I threw up in my mouth

That is a hack job. I don't care if it was a Craigslist crackhead or a legit contractor.

Some foil tape and some mastic fixed it right up.
No picture though, if anything it looked worse, but at least it was air tight.

I feel for the guy that has to replace it at some point though.
