Save a value during power outage?

I have a system with a Distech ECP-500 that has a gas meter pulse output connected to an input. The problem is that if the system loses power,
even for a very short period of time, the pulse value goes to zero and starts over again.
Is there a way to save the current value in memory and add it when the system is powered up again. There is also a Jace 6 on this site if it
    can be done through that.
    Thanks for any help.

I've done this before but will have to dig up what I did. It's been a while.
