Just curious.. after seeing this today.
I was on the 5th floor of a hospital, looking down on one of their rooftops where the outside condensors were sitting. One of the condensers was turning on for 3 seconds or so and stopping just long enough for the fan to almost stop spinning, then it would turn back on again.
This would repeat again and again the whole time I was there watching it.
It was about 15 degrees out in NJ and we had some snow or sleet coming down at the time.
I can't imagine what kind of electric bill they would get for things like that, but the funny thing is no one would even notice something like that is happening.
I wanted to point it out to someone there, but decided not to. Plus no one looked like they cared enough to talk to anyway. lol I did mention it was NJ, right?
Just got me wondering, What would cause this type of 'On-OFF' constantly?

Low ambient control switch. Must be cooling a kitchen or something. You should see what the system pressures look like while that fan is turning on and off.

Gotta be a low ambient control. What you are seeing is the fan "cycling" but not the compressor.
I really hate those things though, they are energy wasters.

It possibly could be that the fan was cycling based on a low ambiant control. The unit is servicing an area that needs cooling year round - computer room, operating room, medical equipment room, etc. The compressor was probably running continuously through all this, and the fan was turning on and off to maintain the proper head pressure in the system.

Oh OK. I'm glad I didn't try and "help out" by pointing it out to someone. lol thanks for the replies.
I'm sure they do have some rooms that need cooling or whatever in the hospital, so it makes sense.
But it was damn cold outside today!
