    megger selection

    Any recommendations on a megger.
    One thats sole purpose is to test motors insulation resistance on chillers. Like Megger MIT300.
    Not a multifunction meter like fluke 1587.

    it includes memory locations and a timer to use 'Polarization' type megging.

    What's wrong with the 1587? That's what I have an it works great, it's just the 1507 with meter components built into it. Although it is incredibly expensive.

    I normally use an MIT400. It does all I need it to.

    I have the yellow box hand cranker good for finding bad motor not so good for trending insulation breakdown over time.

    picked up an old one at yard sale today, an old simpson. opned up to put in battery and I think it uses a "B" battery.

    what ohm ranges should a compressor test be set for?

    I think a rule of thumb is 1 kohm per volt the motor is rated for.

    I just got a Megger MIT410. Seems like its a high quality tool.
