Yup I do along with some thermal paste on the stubs.

No paint burn, well maybe slightly. Thanks, will evac and charge tomorrow. Rebuilt the TXV's also. This is on 40 ton I -pak. # 2 and #4 compressor are being replaced. CC heaters were shorted on all four compressors.

It takes less than a minute and the paint doesnt even bubble.

3/8 liquid line filter/dryer? No big deal!!! I have brazed thousands without wet wraping... Never had a single issue....

You only need to put wet rags to isolate the part your soldering. So that you dont burn the building down. You would be a fool not to isolate the part your soldering. Heat transfers from copper, I would rather be safe then sorry.

Make good habits, then you wont have to worry all the time.

HVAC is as hard and troublesome as you make it. Work smarter not harder.

I wrap the OLD drier that I might be unbrazing from a system to keep it from heating up and releasing its contents into the system. I always try to cut them out first though.

Good reasons to wrap it:
1.You want it to look great.
2.You expect it to go 30+ years without leaking.

Good reasons not to wrap it:
1.You can braze it without compromising the integrity of the paint which protects the steel from rusting.
2."It'll work... git er done!!"
