    HVAC units in attic

Are there any issues with mold growth because of condensate sitting in a pan due to installing gas furnaces within an attic space?

    Dear Buckeye2867,

Question : Are there any issues with mold growth because of condensate sitting in a pan due to installing gas furnaces within an attic space?

    Answer: Unless it’s a condensing furnace (90% + efficient)…….NO.

Reworded question: Are there any issues with mold growth because of condensate sitting in a condensate pan below a cooling coil within an attic space?

    Answer: Plenty.

Ultimate answer: Anytime you have standing water almost anywhere, you take the chance of mold growth unless you take precautions….period.

    Hope this helps…..

There should be no condensate sitting in a pan, it should drain to the outside. But there is always a chance of mold growing on the evaporator coil or in the pan on any unit whether it's in a attic or anywhere else.
