assembling a single round duct section using multiple pieces around the circumference

I've googled, not coming up with any results but I'm not sure what to google on exactly so I registered just to ask about this idea i had today.

After doing the math, it seems that i could assemble a 12 inch round duct AND a 4 inch round duct in the same circumference and I'd have a 16 inch duct with two seams?

Other than a hack, is there some terminology to describe this method of using two round duct pieces for one duct section?

Lol, it wouldn't work out very well. Just buy 16" round duct if that's what you need.
