Why? Why? Why? Stupid gas line install

Like to be setting listening to the guys installing these newer Lennox's, discussing how to run the gas piping. Picked up this service account last week and just scratched my head. Nothing crazy, just LAZY

Did some inspector say the pipes had to be 4' off the roof, or are the installers really that retarded?

I just noticed too, are those units sitting on 4x4's instead of a curb? Are they downflow, how is the ductwork sealed?

If more government is the answer, then it's a really stupid question.

Yep on 4x4 lumber....yep horizontal discharge....yep crappy uninsulated duct. Sealing??? Bucket of tar, some mastic, a bit of silver tape, and another bucket of tar. Think there is leaks???? More pictures attached.

This is Utah..wild wild west of HVAC. Permits, inspectors, certification.....naw..no need for that here, as one can definitely see.

Maintenance..does that mean going inside and cleaning the return grilles? Why is there a ton of oil in this trap?? Why won't compressor start up...wait a minute if I jumper that thing-a-ma-jig on that bigger copper pipe, looks like they call a LPS on that wire drawing thingy, I can't read, then compressor runs..yeah I am a genius... This is why they are gone and our company is now here...I get stuck with it all...yeeaaahhh

Are they using flex range connectors to tie into the units?

New owner, he is a great guy. He owns a ton of light commercial, commercial, malls, dealerships, etc...and just keeps buying more. Chances are we will be setting curbs and cleaning everything up. Just the way he is. These are all preliminary photos I take and forward onto him so we can set down and make a long term plan.

Legal here in Utah. Ugly but legal. Okay to use appliance flex connectors upto 24" or you may use UV rated CSST as far as your eyes can see if you wanted. Most local jurisdictions here want final connection flexible for earthquake issues.

Unreal. Have to paint black pipe here. Should be yellow, but they will allow other colors to blend in with building.
If you really know how it works, you have an execellent chance of fixin' er up!

Tomorrow is promised to no one...

Wonder if there might be an insurance issue.

That is just amazing, how someone, maybe a few people can be so brain dead to do things that way. The real sad thing is though that those people are still out there somewhere doing installs like that.
