There are two draw vents on the flue. The QD's are too low on the water line also... when the heater comes on and the aldehyde spill it reacts with the metal of the QD's and corrode. Clean up will be a breeze.... NotOriginally Posted by hurtinhvac

Given the circumstances... I would not be surprised if this mess was left until it sprung a leak...
Then the owner will gripe about:
*Bad products
*Expensive repairs
Or DIY it.
Regardless... I hope there are not kids growing up in that house... results could be bad.

See the white powder near the cold water inlet? This white powder is an indication of acidic water turned by the alkaline in the aldehyde. Your reasoning would be correct.
