I am working on a system that has Trane 12.5ton RTU units equipped with LCI-R boards. I have been tasked with configuring a Modbus control interface to the units. Each AC unit has (1) one LonTalk Communications Interface (LCI-R) board connected to (1) one LonWorks to Modbus Gateway device (Babel Buster 485). There are a total of (4) units linked with the gateways as slaves connected to a Modbus master device. The Modbus master will issue control commands and record status variables.
The main issue that I am facing is a lack of support from Trane. I have requested information regarding the control structure required to run the unit, but unfortunately for some reason they do not want to release information on their internal controls.
I have spent the majority of today researching information on both the Gateway and LCI-R board. I believe I have the basic structure figured out on the Gateway. I would like to gain some insite from anyone experienced with the Trane controls via the LCI-R board.
I ordered a copy of Lon Maker from Echelon based on discussions with the gateway suppport desk and the requirement to bind the devices together. I also ran across some info on the net stating that depending on how the binding is performed it could cause the .XIF file to be corrupted. Can anyone out there provide a newbie with recommendations or areas to avoid while performing the binding process?
