    Carrier 38QRR with standard blower

Quick question, I have to install a Carrier 38QRR compact heat pump next week. It is going to matched with a standard air handler, not the ductless one carrier sells. I was reading the manual and it shows installing the PISTON at the heat pump service valve. For what I read in the manual its only needed when using the ductless air handler. I just wanted to confirm that this is correct.

    Thanks
    Chris

When in heating mode, the refrigerant will need to be metered at the outdoor unit also.

The install manual I have states a hard shutoff TXV is required at the indoor unit, and the Check AccuRater device (field replaceable piston), which is supplied with the unit, is to be installed at the outdoor unit service valve.

As far as I know, there is no metering device internal to the 38QRR (outdoor unit) for use in heating.
Instead of learning the tricks of the trade, learn the trade.
