    Smardt Chiller Repair - Turbocor

This was my first repair on a turbocor compressor. The IGV on compressor #1 stop responding.......couple months later compressor #2 IGV stop responding and got stuck in a fixed position just like #1 compressor. We talked to DTC they said there was a problem with some of the IGVs installed on some of the ealier compressors. Just finished up the repair today...... compressors came online and loaded up correctly.

Looks good. What was the problem with the IGV? What year was the compressor built?

Did the ball bearing in the peep window indicate that it was stuck at 20% Or did it move the full 0-100 range? Did the IGV test ok?

how do you test the IGV operation? is it thru the I/0 connector and danfoss sofware on your computer ?
i have a turbocor compressor # 2 that IGV only go up to 12 % . the ball bearing not even move stay closed.
after numerous time its tripped. no refrigeration effect at all.

did not see any option on chiller control panel. this is Arctic cool chiller.

You test the IGV operation with Turbocor 3G software and a connection through the interface board..

the manufacturer of the chiller should be able to provide the Turbocor service manual...You might be able to find the new one online, I couldn't but didn't look very hard...There is a section in the back on how to test and verify almost everything in the compressor...You have to put it in manual mode and set the IGV steps. I believe around 12000 is full open 6000 is around 50 and should be the starting percentage...

Your starting % and max steps could be off and causing problems...I check a known good compressor's values when I run into these problems...

You can put the compressor in manual control mode and open the IGV to 110% all through the SMT software

    Smardt Chiller Repair - Turbocor

Smardt had a problem on there first generation chillers where the set screw was coming loose. I know they sent me something about it, id have to check when I get home. The new IGV comes with a new redesigned suction cover. Still fits in the same as the old one.

You can try to contact Smardt but I'm not sure how helpful they will be.
