Chiller Mechanics-Job Market around Texas Cities
Hello All,
I am currently in the East Texas area along the coast; and may have to relocate to assist wife with her career. Maybe in a year or so. Maybe not. What are the markets like for Light/Heavy/Industrial Chiller Mechanics around San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, etc.? Is there a demand? What is the pay like? Centrifugals, Air-Cooled, Ammonia, Screws etc. Union Jobs strongly preferred.

San Antonio Trane is a Union shop. You might want to try Siemens.

I have a buddy in Dallas who works for a smaller non-union company that does chiller work. He said that they're looking right now and they're paying mid-30s to start. Entech and TDI are worth checking out, although I don't think either of them are union.

Yeah, I am 18 years into the pension. I would hate to interrupt my years of service at this point. Have nothing against non-union and my wife has better insurance than me.

Dallas would be your best bet, as it is the largest market. Austin is a joke (lousy traffic, too many hippies and homeless), and San Antonio is not much better.
Stay away from YPS, they haven't paid there dues to the union in a while and may be shut down because of it.
