    Office of Public Integrity

Our wonderful Congress voted 71-27 to reject an amendment to an ethics and lobbying bill that would have established a non-partisan Office of Public Integrity.
The OPI would have investigated complaints of misconduct by Senators and their staffs.
It would have been subordinate to the Senate Ethics Committee, but would have had standing to issue subpoenas and compel testimony without Senate oversight.

After all the crying and moaning about Foley, one would think the Congress would be taking remedial measures to ensure more independent oversight.
