Same here in Las Vegas. I had never seen one until I moved here. They love to sit in the electrical cabinet and also under compressors. I hate spiders.

I hate spiders too....would rather see a snake...I used to run service calls in Tennessee and there was a lot of little brown scorpions that loved to hang out in disconnects. There not supposed to be in Tennessee either....

So I'm at a military base in the computer lab waiting for something and read your comment... Busted out laughing... Probably not good but that was hilarious.

Edit: That reminds me of one time I was trying to open a metal junction box outside and kept getting shocked. Apparently it had filled up with water up to the hot or nuetral but not to the ground so the box became hot. My boss thought I was crazy until he checked

So how many truly carry and use a NC voltage detector without fail...every time you walk up to an outside unit?

And how many times have you found something amiss?

I carry one most of the time. If I don't have it with me, I always do a quick brush, not that it would help but its better than sticking your tongue to the cabinet. ..lol..I've found several energized cabinets in my 20+yrs in the field.

I carry both high and low voltage testers on my hip. They've helped a few times.

We are always just a moment away from death. Oftentimes it's not even because of something we did. Many times it is because of some uninformed DIY'er who doesn't have a clue. And occasionally it is due to the lack of our own safety precautions. Glad you lived to tell the story as it serves as a great reminder to be safe. Thanks for sharing!
