Purchassing a Trane XR15- Concerned about Fan noise level

    Hello,
I am purchassing a Trane XR15 (Single stage) 15 seer unit next week and am concerned about fan noise. My neighbor has an older XR13 (2006) and although the compressor is quiet, it has a conventional fan blade and a slotted grill with half inch slanted slotts all the way around the top rather than a normal wire mesh grill and it is very loud!!

The XR15 condensor unit will be direclty behind my bedroom and my bedroom is upstairs with 2 windows directly above the condensor. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the XR15 fan or noise level. I have heard the XR15 is using a different fan blade but appreciate any info you can provide.

    Thanks!

Agreed. All new XR units have a swept wing fan blade and wire mesh fan grilles. Noise shouldn't be an issue with an XR15 (75 db). Some sizes have compressor sound blankets.

If you want a very quiet unit, step up to the XL15i.

The XR15 has a swept wing fan blade that will help keep the noise down.

The average XR15 sound level is approx. 70-73 decibels. Example, 70 decibels is about the level of noise inside an average car.

Won't get as low as 70-73 dB on the XR15, but you could with the XL15i. See attachment below for comparison of heat pumps/sound levels.

Those ratings are for tests under the AHRI standard 270-2008.

You're unit wont be in a lab therefore it won't be exactly as listed.

I've measured 70-73 decibels on an XR15 personally.

Thanks for clarifying. Helps to hear another perspective. I guess you can't take the sound ratings too literally, rather more of a reference.
