I grew up when first generations were all around. Many of my friends parents could hardly speak English if at all. And most hit the streets with their European talents and created small businesses. And just about all of them did well and added to the strength to America. And some took Federal Jobs for the security and benefits.
Either way they added to the strength of America. And they were quick to fit in even to the point of modifying their names so they could be pronounced easily. They came to America for a better future for themselves and their families. And they could create here. They knew if they worked hard and smart they would be able to do things like buy a home, save money, make a better life for their kids, live longer and happier and actually be able to retire. In thier old countries there was no chance of that happening.
They fit in and supported the American way of life.
Some to a lot of the new immigrants don't do that and they don't want to. They expect and demand the benefits of American without working for those benefits. And they bring their languages and customs with them expecting us to stand aside while they take over when being supported by our tax dollars and our communities.
Needless to say this is not true of all that enter our borders to live here. I have great Thai family that are friends who have opened their own restaurant and what they are going through in this persent destruction of America is shameful. He says it's getting like his old country in a lot of ways.
Simply, there is a big difference in quality and attitude between the generations of people now crossing our borders.
"The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers it can bribe the public with the public's own money.
- Alexis de Toqueville, 1835
