Yup, I've found a few "mechanical" thermostats that require batteries!! Thanks Walmart and Big Box stores, the supply house doesn't sell that junk.

Pretty sure those "mechanical" Hunters are one of them! and we got the T87N that has a battery too.

While manual says "battery assisted", I never saw one with a battery in it!!

I will NOT use one of those anymore, or any non-powered stat.

They have one of those "watch batteries" in them. They say it's non removable but I've had them all apart and the battery out before. I tried one once and discovered that it likes things too cool. 74 is really 72.

I've seen the newer "T87" stats and have wondered if they were power stealing... Is "battery assisted" somewhat power stealing?

It power steals to charge that battery inside.

That's how I understand it to work. They don't seem to have the goofy power stealing issues the Nest has AFAIK but I don't bother with those T87N's enough to really know.

Junk........ I despise those things if I have an opportunity to replace them I always will. I hate the fact that Home Depot and other DIY places sell these things because, everyone that can read thinks there a ac professional and buy the wrong stat or wire it up wrong, then get rid of the installation guide.
