GPRS Modem
I did a search on here but couldn't find much info. Im looking at a building thats remote for me. There is no Ethernet available on this site so I figured id look into the gprs modem. I found a thread on here saying that its slow which is what i expected. But has anyone set one of these up before? I read the pdf and it looks like i need a sim card from the wyless group. Can you use it to access the station with a browser or is it mainly used to send out alarms and histories?
Also, in one of the threads this link was posted http://www.clear.com/ not sure how this would work with the jace though

I have not personally used this setup, but have heard from others that it does work well. However you do need a usb modem (or express card modem) with a static IP address, do not try and use a dynamic address and a dynamic DNS name service provider, I believe Verizon charges 5 big ones to setup your account with static IP's but all devices on that account can then be static addresses. Having talked to Wyless (see below) I understand that they can supply you with a Cradlepoint router and modem with a static IP at a competitive rate.
I will however in the next month or so be installing a Jace with the GPRS modem and Wyless SIM card, this application needs SMS messaging which I do not believe can be done with a router connected to the Ethernet port. I will report back on the performance of the connection later.
