I suppose. But wouldn't aluminum coils lead to be more prone to corrosion? Especially near salt water? Copper I think would hold up much better then aluminum. Even though aluminum doesn't rust.
All aluminum coils do FAR better in sea coast environments than traditional copper tube/aluminum fin coils.
Aluminum does very well in a salt environment when it is the only metal, it's the dissimilar metal contact that causes issues.
An all copper coil would likely do even better, but it would be crazy expensive.
A more appropiate title would be.
Will every component of the Air Conditioner units be made of all plastic.
I am starting to see the mini-split design carring over.

Actually, aluminum does better than all copper in a salt air environment. As stated, the biggest problem is galvanic corrosion, or as commonly called, electrolosis from the dissimilar metals. Have heard suggestions of making stainless steel equipment, but I see it rust when it's in an application where no air can get to it.

Mini split has its advantages in resi applications where the tinbashers didn't do their jobs right off the bat, in retrofit applications, or where there is a demand for added capacity in smaller areas. I manage a property (MDU) where they would be a good idea should the owner wish to make a capital investment.
Nordyne has aluminum line sets on there mobile home units now with micro channel evaporator coils and condenser coils. Not a fan of it , but no issues as of yet on the few I have installed.
Just gonna take a little practicing with the torch. I can't imagine commercial or refrigeration will be jumping in soon though. Too many variables with getting deteriorated prematurely.

yes aluminum is good material to use in it.
All aluminum coils will put a dent in the crack dealers pocket.
Carrier went to all aluminum micro channel on com and industrial equipment. Didn't go very well. They have discontinued for now. It is going that way across the board though. They just got to work out the kinks. Heatcraft has also gone to the micro channel on cond coils and seem to be holding up better then carrier's version.

We have put in several MC inside and out Nordyne units. No problems yet....
Only thing we had was a Nordyne coil replacement last year. They gave us a MC replacement on a HP. Replaced by the book even changed the bi-flow, vacc. Etc. in the end of the cool season. Three months later the piston/strainer in the CU was plugged.
The coil had something in it.

I took a tour of the Trane Factory in Clarksville, TN last year. Not only will the coils be all micro channel, an engineer there told me that the refrigerant lines will eventually be as well. Its a matter of economics. Cost of aluminum vs the cost of copper.

There are some Commercial Air Conditioning systems out there which are starting to use Aluminum Tubing as opposed to Copper Tubing.
What about the push for manufacturing out of recycled aluminum? As in car engines? My mechanic explained that the impurities from recycled aluminum has made it the material softer therefore requiring a milder anti-freeze which will not eat up the aluminum castings.
