Stupid question about leak sealents and sealed systems
There's been a lot of talk about the negative impact sealants can have on equipment if the refrigerant is contaminated with moisture.
Presumably small factory charged/sealed systems such as window a/cs, fridges, dehumidifiers, etc are properly evacuated...
So my question is: Why don't manufacturers add sealant factory charge to prevent leaks which always cost more to repair than the equipment is worth? Planned obsolescence?
With proper evacuation, products such as super-seal shouldn't do any damage, correct?
it costs money...... that's why...
it was working.... played with it.... now its broke.... whats the going hourly rate for HVAC repair
Because nothing is designed to be in the system besides oil and refrigerant. If it's not oil, and it's not refrigerant, then it should not be in there.

Ask how many people use sealant on this board. You won't find many, other than some old system about to die where they want another year.
Here's the REAL question:
Why don't manufacturers make their equipment so that they don't leak to begin with?
As carmon said, it's money related.
As in, the consumers money. The manufacturers know there is a limit to how much they can charge for equipment before no one will buy their stuff. So, they can only dump so much money in.
The consumer drives the market, and the market follows the consumer.

"Just get it done son."
