Not making Ice

Have decent experience in field but still need help at times , sometimes overlook obvious , I have a undercounter Mantitowoc ice machine QY0214A diag bad compresser with tech support system locking out after three 60 min freeze cycles , customer had to keep resetting it . We confirmed hot gas bypass not leaking . Suction pressure never dropped below 55 psi , bad valves , also pulled pump moter to stop water flow should have pulled down a little with no water on evap no suction drop . Bad compressor . Previously adjusted water level to 3/8 inch of of drain pipe to make sure warm water wasn't coming in . Any way change comp . Nine yards ect. Suction now dropping its late seems gravy to 25 psi in freze cycle , I get pulled off for another emergency job I call three hours later the girl says seems like its working I'm thinking I'm golden ! Next morning the girl says she had to restart it again . Any it's still taking 45 to 55 min to make a batch of ice . And locking out after three cycles . Now it seems bottom of evap is making ice top part is thin and week , tried adjusting charge . Tweaking it . I lknow post to weigh it in . But I'm thinking txv not feeding properly head pressure is at 225 at 75• ambient an fan cycle switcher is cycling at 220 cuts out and restarts at 275 and just cyling I tried jumping it thinking that would help but it didn't . Can anyone point me in the right direction , help please

Check your the evap plate pull a little on them if they loose that's one possibility.

I think your right , I went and recovers charge an only pulled out 4 oz . Dang it I guess you can't skip steps , I might of not put it all back when I recoverd it the first time should have weighed it back in then trying to adjust it after the fact I screwed it all up. Wow look at that with the exact amount of ref 13 0z perfect sheet ice across evap who knew doing it the right way would save you five hours of your life . Lesson to all you hot shots who want to skip the rules ( like me) don't do it :$

Wait, you recovered a 3/4 lb charge into a standard recovery tank then just put it back without weighing in? I'm surprised it worked at all right after you were done. Your tank, recovery machine and hose residuals can be many ounces. Ice machines are critically charged! When you think about it, if you short it just 1.3 ounces, you are 10% short charged.

Anytime you are working on a small ice machine like this you should just use virgin refrigerant anytime you have to remove the existing charge. In this case, with a bad compressor, you should have used new for sure.

MicahWes hit it on the head. Anytime you work on a small machine like this undercounter Manitowoc You should use weighed in virgin refrigerant the charge is so critical.

I use valves at the end of the hoses, so what I see on the scale is what is IN the ice machine.

Since I never know who has been there before me, I never re-use what I pull out.

Our client has a warehouse of used equipment they have pulled out of sites they have closed, so no, we don't do ANY warranty work.
