Someone else showed up on my background check

i applied for a job and had to go through a company called HireRight.
I requested a copy of all info.
I noticed someone else's name on my record which i couldn't make any sense out of.

i hired a background clerk to look into it.
it looks like one of our unrequested inhabitants from south of the border used my Social Security number when he was arrested.
a fingerprint scan was proof this is a different person.

the record shows a different name and a different birth date.

it looks like it's been on my record since 2006.
how much effect this has had on my employment is unknown.

The Justice Department filed a complaint on behalf of the Federal Trade Commission alleging that HireRight violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act by failing to verify the accuracy of the background checks, give consumers copies of the background checks or investigate disputes regarding incorrect information appearing on the background checks. More specifically, one of the practices the FTC alleged that the HireRight did was including expunged criminal offenses on background checks or reporting the same offense multiple times on the report. This caused some consumers’ criminal history to look more extensive than it actually was. As a result, many consumers were denied employment or benefits due to the inaccurate information. In this economy it is difficult to secure employment and having incorrect information appear on the background check makes it that much more difficult.

I would contact the lawyer who is filing against HireRight, as there is no doubt such a person mounting a class action.

I would also distribute docs to all companies to which you have applied and get on the record with your discovery, explaining on the situation page one just as you explained it to us.

That is really scary. Sounds like you have a pretty good plan in place to get things straightened out though.

Now the question is, how did this undesireable piece of $hit get your SSN?

And the sad part is because we live in socialistic country where supposedly private info is entered into databases. Computers do not forget, ever. Cloud computing will only exacerbate the problems. And, these people are taught how to victimize and take advantage of. I've got a surreal story of how my HIPPA rights were trashed.
The picture in my avatar is of the Houston Ship Channel and was taken from my backyard. I like to sit outside and slap mosquitos while watching countless supertankers, barges and cargo ships of every shape and size carry all sorts of deadly toxins to and fro. It's really beautiful at times.....just don't eat the three eyed fish....

Problem with SSN's are until the last 10 years they were used for everything from employee ID's to Drivers License numbers. I can remember back in the 80's the local PD would tell people to put them on personal property like TV's, bicycles and other items that were frequently stolen.
There are also records like death/birth which can be searched and found without a whole lot of effort on the net. I recently was looking for my father's SSN, been deceased since 82 and came across a huge searchable database and it only took 15 minutes. I also came across his name and it was listed in a town not far from me but the SSN was listed as possible fraudulent and he has never been within 1000 miles of here. Scarey stuff.
If you can't fix it with JB Weld, Duct Tape, and Ty Wire it has to be replaced.

I think mistakes like this are more common than one would think, it happens to me more than not it seems. I would think the company you are applying to would give you a chance to straighten it out if they had an interest in you. If not it would lead me to believe they had no interest in you and I would just straighten the records out and move on. If that is the only reason for them not wanting you, you are better off not working there. JMO.

This is another belief of the low information voter...

Here is the information. Barack Obama was about 9 years old, so that was a big accomplishment for the social justice messiah.

I think Obama was closer to 42.

FACTA was an amendment to the bill you linked to. The credit goes to "W."
The poster you quoted atleast qualified his view by saying he believed it was Obama and didn't disparage anybody. Technically his quote was correct. As for yours?

The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003 (abbreviated FACT Act or FACTA, Pub.L. 108–159) is a United States federal law, passed by the United States Congress on November 22, 2003,[1] and signed by President George W. Bush on December 4, 2003,[2] as an amendment to the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The act allows consumers to request and obtain a free credit report once every twelve months from each of the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion). In cooperation with the Federal Trade Commission, the three major credit reporting agencies set up the website, AnnualCreditReport.com, to provide free access to annual credit reports.[3]
The act also contains provisions to help reduce identity theft, such as the ability for individuals to place alerts on their credit histories if identity theft is suspected, or if deploying overseas in the military, thereby making fraudulent applications for credit more difficult.

You guys are looking at this all wrong. Now that the OP is a minority, there are a whole bunch of gubmint stipends he should be able to qualify for. Not to mention his children getting free education thru the Dream Act. I think he hit the jackpot.

Yeah, poor white boys what will we do? Maybe everybody is a member of a minority group now. Actually that isn't true either.

A minority group is a sociological category within a demographic. Rather than a relational "social group", as the term would indicate, the term refers to a category that is differentiated and defined by the social majority, that is, those who hold the majority of positions of social power in a society.

Nothing In The Bill Provides A "Free Ride To College." The DREAM Act makes permanent legal status eventually available to certain individuals who attend college, but it does not pay for that education. In fact, the bill limits federal student aid available to those who obtain legal status through the DREAM Act to loans, work-study programs and services like counseling, and mentoring. DREAM Act students will not have access to federal grant programs like Pell Grants and Opportunity Grants.

From Section 11 of the DREAM Act:

I wonder why people would be misled with misinformation? Who would do such a thing and why? And don't they realize that intelligent, thoughtful truth seeking people would find out the truth?

Your post raises some interesting points in time. Let's look at them, shall we?

YES! I am more than willing to disabuse someone who votes based on a mistaken view of reality that he gets from TV networks, small cable outlets, websites operated by the Huffington Post and their ilk, or union leadership.

And I am proud to do so. And I support the ideas of brilliant African Americans like Dr. Benjamin Carson. I am so thankful that men such as him are still willing to stand up and speak out.

The Act passed in 1970, when Obama was about 9, and his future political friends were still active domestic terrorists.

It was amended, as you said. But it could not have been amended if it was not already in force, and also true, some credit goes to the congress that amended it, and the President, George W. Bush, who signed it.

When Barack Obama was 42, he had not yet been elected to the US Senate, where he started voting "present." He avoided going on the record in the Senate, so no defining ideas would be permanently attached to him. This maintained his condition of being the "blank slate," upon which hopeful, uneducated millions could write their own ideas, and credit those ideas to him.

The point I hope to make is that a very large segment of the US population is unable to connect the Presidential leadership, or the lack thereof, to the conditions he creates, as he skillfully (I'll give him that) portrays himself as battling unseen forces which he blames for the current conditions.

He will be remembered as perhaps THE most skillful obfuscater of all US Presidents.

And, President Obama had NOTHING to do with our ability to get a free credit report every year.

There is a lot in your post that would make for a great discussion. Hopefully it will come about. But before that there is one glaring bit of "information" that needs correcting. Obama never voted present in the US senate. He did so as a state senator. He did so less than most of his fellow caucus members. It is often used as a way to express a protest as to how the bill was put together.

I should have known not to trust Hillary Clinton, whose word I was relying upon for the "present" votes in the US Senate by Barack Obama. Yes, he DID vote "present" in the Illinois legislature, and this protest vote is somewhat cowardly, since his job as a legislator is to vote up or down, just as Senator Reid's refusal to allow a vote on a constitutionally mandated budget is also somewhat cowardly. Senator Reid wants to protect Senate democrats from facing backlash in their elections due to how they vote. Cowardly? Indeed.

Perhaps we can agree that the founders believed that our representative republic can only thrive with a well informed electorate, which is something sorely lacking, today.

We have allowed liars and thieves to mislead the public without fear of reprisal, and this alone could be our downfall, much less a man who holds our nation in disdain in his heart. Why else would such a man long for "fundamental change" to the greatest nation on earth?

I would love to see where you say Hilary accused Obama of doing that in the US Senate. I can find Palin, Fox etc doing that. I can only find Hilary saying it happened in the state senate which was the case.
