Seems like more work than it was worth!!
Went out on an estimate the other day to replace a customer's unit. When I spoke to him on the phone he told me, "I have two units but not really, or at least that's what I've been told so far."
It's an older home in Phoenix (built in 1947 ish) so what I was expecting to find was a furnace and a straight cool packaged unit on the roof. Lo and behold, I found something far more interesting! The compressor in the packaged unit had died so they tied in a 5 ton condenser into the packaged unit!!! I love the tape job on the side panel of the packaged unit. Class act. Only in Phoenix! LOL
What kind of rig are you driving?
Isuzu NPR. Awesome truck!
I'm surprised they didn't put the condensing unit on top of the other unit.
that's just sad
didn't realize Phoenix had a hood
It`s better to be silent and thought the fool; than speak and remove all doubt.
I wonder how much cheaper that was then just replacing the compressor or the whole unit.
Hmmm, think the coil matches?
....outside the BOX.
Which makes more sense to you?
- turning your thermostat back and being uncomfortable. Maybe saving 5-10%
- leaving your thermostat where everyone is comfortable. Saving 30-70%
DO THE NUMBERS! Step on a HOMESCALE.
What is comfort? Well, it AIN'T just TEMPERATURE!
Energy Obese? An audit is the next step - go to BPI.org
, or RESNET
, and find an auditor near you.
Most interesting tid bit is that the home owner bought the house under a year ago and the units were like that when he bought the home. How the heck did that pass inspection?? LOL
Those things are built tough. Over seas, they run them non-stop full tilt and they still keep going.
Were is the condenser section of the old package unit? You sure that's just not an old outdoor ahu? Sure looks like it's been that way for awhile.
Looks like that setup has been there a long time, gonna take a guess and say 10-15 years? Bet it worked fine all this time.
I was wondering the same thing ....

Whatcha wanna bet a tech owned that house , had a old ODU laying around and made it work
Friggin ingenious idea , and did a neat n tidy job
It looks like an air handler
I have never seen a RTU with no condenser coil.
