To use your phrase, correlation does not equal causation.
An AR-15 didn't CAUSE the Sandy Hook shooting.
It didnt' CAUSE the Aurora theater shooting.
No more than a car causes a car crash or a pool causes a drowning.
The cure of the part should not be attempted without treatment of the whole. No attempt should be made to cure of the body without the soul.
Plato: Republic:382 BC.
I'd suggest that, if a "WHOLE" approach were taken, then I bet that we'd find an assault weapons ban to be frivolous and unnecessary.

How in the world did this conversation wind up being thrown up on with homosexually oriented video and geer gas?
Simply put, a firearm can make any potential victim equal to or greater than any potential assailant. American's need to be judged on our actions, not our possessions.
If we take the top 10 ways that people in the U.S. are killed by others, the statistics are really skewed toward making it seem that the use of firearms is the main method for homocide. Let's look at that top ten list;
10. Explosives
9. Drowning
8. Narcotics used for murder
7. Fire induced killings
6. Strangulation
5. Asphyxiation
4. Use of blunt objects
3. Personal body weapons
2. Knives and cutting instruments
1. Firearms
OK, so what the statisticians have done is to water down all of the "non-firearm" related killings by dividing them into small segments. In reality, just the three methods in red far exceed firearms killings. Add to this, the fact that most of the firearm killings are bad guys shooting other bad guys, and firearms becomes a relatively minor factor for murders of victimized citizens.
Now, take into consideration the millions of incidents where a citizen has prevented a crime by being able to brandish a firearm and it becomes very clear that unless there is a way to magically make all firearms just disappear, so that the bad guys cannot ever have them, it is much better that every citizen be able to make themselves less vulnerable to the bad guys by being able to own and carry a firearm.Government is a disease......masquerading as its own cureEcclesiastes 10:2 NIV

An axiom the gun enthusiast crowd should embrace.
Statements I have never made.An AR-15 didn't CAUSE the Sandy Hook shooting.
It didnt' CAUSE the Aurora theater shooting.
No more than a car causes a car crash or a pool causes a drowning.
Gotta start somewhere. Limiting the availability of the weapons used in mass shootings would be the logical first step in a comprehensive program. The cure of the part should not be attempted without treatment of the whole. No attempt should be made to cure of the body without the soul.
I suggest this is no more than wishful thinking.I'd suggest that, if a "WHOLE" approach were taken, then I bet that we'd find an assault weapons ban to be frivolous and unnecessary.

How so.
Logically, one would conclude that if we were able to reduce or eliminate the number of people in society that wish to do harm to others, then with NO OTHER CHANGES, we'd see a reduction in crimes that cause harm to people.
So, it stands to reason that a WHOLE approach would be the best and most effective approach to take, rather than saying "let's ban guns and see what happens" which is what the gun grabber crowd is doing.

Service calls submitted after 3PM will be posted the next business day.
I give free estimates [Wild Ass Guesses] over the phone.
I am not in business to make money from other people so that I can afford to work for you for free.
If the fall is over, mmmm let's say, 6 feet or so,.. I do not 'bounce' very well.
