I'm sorry I like thier list better. The only song I can think of from warrant is "sweet cherry pie" with songs like that they could hardly be considered a hard rock band yet alone heavy metal!haha!!Also GNR can't be considered for one of the greatest because of axel's poor attitude & thier flash in the pan short lived success.
Take your time & do it right!

There so called "shorted lived success" amounted to over 90 million dollars in record sales and countless classics. And Axl's attitude ( which I'm not a big fan of either) is rock and roll. Unfortunately many of lifes artistic geniuses have very tortured souls.

GNR rules. The original lineup. They are not GNR without Slash.

Being from St. Louis we know all about Axl's antics. But we got revenge.

Having said that GNR has to be one of the greatest bands to come out of the hair metal days. They did a lot in the short time together. They are eligible for the rock n roll hall of fame in 2012.

    My #1 was Judas Priest

#2 Def Leppard before everyone knew who they were

I never considered Dio, Kiss , Guns and Roses, & Van Halen heavy metal. Maybe they were. Just never thought of them that way. They were just too mainstream to me

I think of Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Rush...those were the ones I listened to.

I could only take so much of Motorhead tho.

Back in the '80's when the thing to do here was go roller skating, when they began playing "Rock You Like a Hurricane"...you knew it was time to find a new favorite heavy metal band.

If the girls knew the words...I just couldn't listen in the same way

None of my GFs liked Judas Priest. I think that's why I liked them the best

I have seen this show and don't agree with the rankings either. There is a difference between metal and hard rock and VH1 is including both in the rankings. Most on the list are hard rock and don't belong there.

Top 5 in my opinion are:

    1).Led Zeppelin
    2).Black Sabbath
    3).Judas Preist
    4).Mettalica
    5).Iron maiden

These 5 bands have greatly influenced heavy metal as we know it today.

Metallica, Motorhead, & Slayer all deserved to be on that list.
I would have had Motorhead & Slayer a bit closer to the #1 spot though.

    Steppenwolf coined 'heavy metal'

Any list without led zep on it (the seed from which all metal grows) is just plain silly.
A Diamond is just a piece of coal, that made good under pressure!
