Fellas!! That is a early prototype heat recovery system, Very rare and worth its weight in gold!. You can take that to the bank and retire right now.

The flue through the return is so bad you almost don't notice the 3 inch from the water heater just scabbed into the side. No foil tape or red goo at all.
