638A vs 638B
I'm going for a interview today for a company that is in Local 638B. Is this the metal trades union or Construction trades union?

I still don't understand how Air Conditioning and Refrigeration repair, maintenance, etc. is a Metal Trades classification.
So in NYC, a Chiller Tech is a "B-Card" Jm? "B-Card" as in Local 638B. Local 638B is a "MT" Local.
In Chicago, a Chiller Tech is an "A-Card" Jm. "A-Card" as in A, B, or C Cards. A "B-Card" is referred to as "MT".
Please feel free to answer or make corrections.

I like that.
I transfered to NC in 1998 when I thought they were merging the 638A and 638B. I lost my pension transfering from 638B Metal Trades to Local 421 Building Trades. Every time they give us the great speach about going anywhere in the country through the union I call BS.Refer all arguments to the wife, she's better at it.

They did merge 638 A&B. Took any protection the B delegates could provide the B man and threw it out the door. Put an A delegate to "represent" the B men. A few years ago I get caught doing control wiring and the B delegate threatened to bring me up on charges. I had to fax him a copy of our agreement, highlighting the section that says we can do control wiring. Happened more than once.

We union guys are vested into the pension plan after 5 years, if you leave the union before fully vested there is a chance you wont collect. I lost my pension with the UA (international) when I switched to the local pension plan but to me was a no brainer, lost $25 bucks here to make $100 there.
We love to complain, is human nature, in reality the union offers more to the working men than the other side and you can take that to the bank, been in both sides, know the difference.
