i call BS on the blackout

during the blackout they said the lights would come back on in 30 minutes,
then 20 minutes,
then 10 minutes,
and they went on.

during my 6 years of HVAC repair i've never been able to tell a customer, "your unit will be ready at 3:36pm"
a real repair ALWAYS takes longer than expected.

"go ahead, tie in the bus"
which means an electrical re-route.
a re-route bypassing what?
they never said a transformer blew out.
as a matter of fact, they don't want to give anyone any serious definition of what happened

they said a "sensing device" , which was working properly, caused the blackout.
so that's their way of saying they don't want to blame anyone or anything

how convenient that only half of the stadium lights went out, if they all went out i could have caused an issue.
how convenient that the blackout wasn't so bad they had to cancel the game or keep people waiting for 2 hours.

so they turned out the lights for almost exactly an extra half hour, then probably called up the sponsors and told them they had an "emergency" ,and there was more commercial time available if they have a credit card handy,

at the third most watched television event in history.

I think that would take a whole lot more brain power than your average New Orleanean could muster.

At another forum I'm in they were wondering about the ground fault sensor, a common item in 480v systems of that size, and if the gennys of the halftime show messed with it. Also, it takes 15 minutes for the stadium lights to cool enough to be re-struck, plus another 15 to get back to full light (metal halide). Not disproving your theory, but giving some insight.

When you have that much money in the line you can put a time clock on a failure. I have watched a mill crash while working on a cardox unit. It looked like a 3story building fully engulfed in flames complete with parts flying. They said go take a break it will be up in about forty. In forty minutes it was rolling product.
Another thing to think about is a common thing we have all seen.
Maintenance guy-"hey we need to change these wires and this breaker it looks like it got real hot and could take a dump any minute."
His boss-"we don't have time for that! Did you check that window unit yet?"

They sell hot dog wieners in packs of twelve, but the buns come in packages of eight.
