8 month old trane.

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures but I wanted to share. I was called out to a 8month old trane for a tune up. Furnace was installed by another company that was cheaper than our bid.

Furnace tripping high limit- gas pressure was set to 5.7
Flue pipe leaking water from every joint- never glued
Combustion air pipe was basically ran in the shape of a N creating a trap.
Inducer pipe not clamped
Heat exchanger cracked on 3of4 chambers
Humidifier wired straight to IFC and not To separate transformer. ( not sure if this is required but is a standard in our installs)

Client said the company has been back 6times in 8 months "fixing issues"

They got exactly what they paid for. Are they buying a new furnace from you or are you going to fix their "New" furnace probably charging more then they paid for it the first time?

He is going to try to fight them into paying us to fix their screw ups. It probably won't work but at least I was thorough enough to catch all of these issues while it is in warranty. I know some guys probably would wipe it down, kick it twice and walk away since it was brand new.

There might be some warranty issues on a 8 month old cracked heat exchanger. Last I heard warranty's don't cover incorrect installs.

How did you verify cracked heat exchange? Just curious. The furnace presumably has only been running for four or five months. Even of it was cycling I've never seen that for such a new system.

Visual inspection with Camera and mirror and flashlight. The cracks were tiny but cracks none the less.

Yes. No CO and flue was 18ppm. I average about one or two cracked heat exchangers a day and have never had one spilling co.

Maybe scratches. If you can't see light through the crack, or if you can't get water to wick through, it's not cracked.

Even with no airflow, over fired, and bouncing off the limit, I have a hard time believing it cracked. Not saying it's impossible, I wasn't there, just highly unlikely.

Definitely not scratches. I have posted pictures of the trane cracks in a thread called TRANE HEAT EXCHANGERS. Check it out and see what you think. Every one that comes in gets verified by the service manager and ultimately sent back to trane. As A company we have sent hundreds back to trane. It has nothing to do with airflow. IMO its design and materials but I'm no engineer.

Not doubting you. I don't deal with a huge number of Tranes, will be leaving in a few to service one though that deserves to be in here, I will post shots of later. I will take a long look at HX.

Your picture in the other thread is hard to see for me. It looks like a crack bit I can't tell what I'm looking at. Those snakes have their limitations. I agree that if water isn't seeping through its not a crack. Is it a particular model you are finding these on?
