Turn the IPI switch on so the pilot stays on continuously. It's a small silver toggle switch just below the glass on the left hand side. Keeping a bit of heat in the vent should help.
Hi
I have a regency hz42ste
During winter the venting pipes keeps icing
The flames are wispy blue dancing lifting off rocks and then fireplace goes out
Repair men from installer opens glass and fire place lights ... Keeps open for about 1 hr then replaces glass. Things work till it happens again.
The chimney is vertical about 50 feet straight up. It passes through cold attic to roof.
Dose anyone know how to keep this from happening.
Thanks

Where are you? Are you done yet? I got ONE more call for you.....
The manual I looked at showed a maximum of 38ft of total vertical venting. There are vent restrictor settings for various heights and configurations, which may affect performance.
The IPI over-ride into a continuous pilot or "cold climate" function with some mfrs. is a good test but I don't see how you're going to get around that venting height problem. When firing, 50ft. can over-draft. At standby, it may be too much cold pipe and air for a standing pilot to keep "primed".
Need to move to "Fireplaces" forum.
Keep the fire inside the fireplace.

Thank you for info. I don't see toggle switch but keep pilot on an use firplace regularly.
Is there a way to insulate a chimney exposed to too much cold or is too tall or a fan to blow warm air inside. I will repost on fie place forum .
your vent is too high. most mfg. have a 35-40ft max venting height. Not sure what your mfg. recommends but check the owners/install manual. The problem occurs because the hot air going up is fighting the cold air going down, and it cant establish draft in the right direction.
Turn the IPI switch on so the pilot is on continuously. It's a small metal toggle switch just below the glass on the left hand side. The bit of heat from the pilot should keep the vent warm enough to prevent freezing.
